Rail Safety Week Sept. 24-29

Did you know that in 2016 at least 1000 people were killed or injured in vehicle versus train collisions?  Did you know over 900 people were killed while walking on or near the tracks?

Operation Lifesaver is a nonprofit public safety education and awareness organization dedicated to reducing collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail crossings and trespassing on or near railroad tracks.

September 24-29 has been designated “Rail Safety Week.” On the morning of Sept. 26, law enforcement agencies from across the country, including the Woodburn Police Department, will be take part in “Operation Clear Track.” The goal of this event is to raise awareness, educate the public and enforce the railroad grade crossing and trespassing laws in communities across the country. This initiative will be the largest simultaneous railroad safety law enforcement operation ever assembled in the U.S.
